Cardinals in pop culture

September 3rd, 2009 | by questionmark |

Getting to the Super Bowl was one thing, but Cardinals making an impact in pop culture? Bestill my heart! When Madison Avenue takes an interest, you know the Cardinals have truly made it. Wait a second, Madison Avenue? Could this be the handiwork of Cards superfan Jon “Don Draper” Hamm? If we see Beanie Wells in an ad hawking slide carousels, we’ll know the gig is up.

First, you have Larry Fitzgerald showing off his hands in an International House Of Pancakes ad that maybe (MAYYYYYYBE) had a bit of CGI involved. Then again, Fitzgerald is awesome. I’d like to believe that he actually did make bare-handed grabs of his breakfast. Also, that waitress has a way better arm than Brian St. Pierre.

Fitzy isn’t the only NFL player that got the royal treatment from IHOP, as Donovan McNabb has a pair of similar-themed ads: version one and version two. How much ya wanna bet that McNabb asked for the second take after he realized that being sacked by a 100-pound waitress wouldn’t help his reputation? Be thankful, Eagles fans — at least McNabb didn’t take a look at the pancakes and toss his cookies a la the end of Super Bowl XXXIX. Between the puking waiter and Cruella de Vick, Philly fans have to be loving their quarterback situation.

The other bit of Cardinals pop-culture news comes from an item in Entertainment Weekly about Kurt Warner’s upcoming guest appearance on The Suite Life On Deck, a Disney Channel kidcom that you’re probably familiar with if you have preteens. This item and subsequent hilarious picture of Warner in a sequined jersey drew a lot of attention in the blogosphere, mostly from Warner fantasy owners showing mock regret over their pick.

Let’s think about it, though. London Tipton buys the team, bedazzles their uniforms and renames them the ‘Sparklies.’ Would either of these moves even crack the top five of Bidwell Family ownership mistakes?
